Yenching Academy Scholarship 2027 (Fully Funded)

Study in China on a Fully Funded Scholarship.

The Yenching Academy is a graduate school at Peking University in Beijing. It runs a two-year Master’s in China Studies, taught in English.

Applications are open for the 2027 intake. The scholarship is fully funded. It covers tuition, on-campus accommodation, a monthly stipend, flights, and medical insurance.

The deadline is 30 November 2026. You do not need to speak Chinese to apply.

About the Yenching Academy Scholarship

The Yenching Academy sits inside Peking University, one of the top universities in Asia. Each year it admits around 120 scholars from across the world. About three in four come from outside China.

The program is a Master’s in China Studies. You study China across subjects, from economics to history to politics. The Yenching Fellowship covers the full cost of the two years.

The Academy does not publish a fixed stipend amount. Tuition, housing, flights, and living costs are covered, so you can study without working on the side.

Eligibility Criteria

• Open to international students. Applicants from mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan apply through separate channels.
• A bachelor’s degree, completed before enrolment (by August 2027 for this intake).
• A clear interest in the study of China.
• Academic transcripts and two reference letters.
• An English test score, unless you are exempt (see below).

English Language Requirement

The program is taught in English. You need one of these scores:

• IELTS: 7.0
• TOEFL iBT: 100
• Cambridge English: 185
• CET-6: 600 or TEM-4 pass level

You may be exempt if English is your first language or you studied your bachelor’s degree fully in English. Check the official page for how recent your score must be.

Is There an Age Limit?

There is no fixed age limit in the rules. In practice most scholars are in their early to mid-twenties, within a few years of their first degree.

Can I Apply With a Low CGPA?

There is no published GPA cut-off. The program is competitive and grades count, but they are read alongside your essay, interest in China, and references. A lower grade with a strong application still gets considered.

4. Ask two referees for recommendation letters early.
5. Write your personal statement and essays.
6. Create your account on the online application system and complete every section.
7. Upload your documents and submit before the deadline.

Selection Process

Applications are screened on documents and essays first. Strong candidates are invited to an online interview. Final results follow after that.
