The Chevening Scholarship 2027/2028 is a fully funded scholarship for a one-year master’s degree in the United Kingdom. It is funded by the UK government and open to citizens of more than 160 Chevening-eligible countries. About the Chevening Scholarship

Chevening is the United Kingdom’s international scholarship programme, funded by the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office. It has operated since 1983 and has supported more than 50,000 scholars around the world. The programme is aimed at emerging leaders who plan to use their studies to make a difference in their home countries.

Scholarship Benefits

The Chevening Scholarship is fully funded. It covers the following:

• Full tuition fees for the master’s degree
• A monthly living allowance, paid at a higher rate for study in London
• Economy return flights between the home country and the United Kingdom
• An arrival allowance and a departure allowance
• The cost of the visa application
• A contribution of up to 75 pounds for a TB test, where required
• A travel top-up allowance

Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must meet all of the following requirements:

• Be a citizen of a Chevening-eligible country or territory
• Return to the home country for at least two years after the scholarship ends
• Hold an undergraduate degree that qualifies for a UK master’s programme
• Have at least two years of work experience, equal to 2,800 hours, completed after the undergraduate degree
• Apply to three different eligible UK courses and hold at least one unconditional offer by the deadline
• Meet the English language requirement of the chosen university

Is There an Age Limit?

Chevening has no age limit. Applicants of any age may apply, provided they meet the work experience and degree requirements.

Is IELTS Required?

An English language test is not required by Chevening at the application stage. Applicants must meet the English language requirement of their chosen UK university, which confirms the accepted tests and scores. Candidates are advised to check these requirements early and book any test in good time.

Can Applicants With a Low CGPA Apply?

A low CGPA does not automatically disqualify an applicant. Chevening places greater weight on work experience, leadership, and career plans than on grades. Each UK university sets its own entry requirements, so applicants should select courses where their grades give a realistic chance of an offer.

Writing the Chevening Essays

• Answer the exact question asked, rather than reusing a general personal statement
• Use specific examples, naming the project, the people involved, and the result
• Show leadership and influence, not only job responsibilities
• Set out a clear career plan and connect it to the home country
• Keep the writing honest and accurate, as the interview will test the details

1. Confirm eligibility and that the home country is Chevening-eligible
2. Research and select three different eligible UK courses
3. Create an account on the official Chevening application system
4. Complete the form and write all four essays
5. Submit before the deadline, then add references and documents if shortlisted

Selection Process

After the deadline, all applications are assessed against the eligibility criteria. A reading committee then scores the eligible applications and prepares a shortlist. Shortlisted candidates are invited to an interview at a UK embassy or high commission. Final selection follows the interviews and confirmation of an unconditional university offer.
