Chevening is the United Kingdom’s international scholarship programme, funded by the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office. It has operated since 1983 and has supported more than 50,000 scholars around the world. The programme is aimed at emerging leaders who plan to use their studies to make a difference in their home countries.
Chevening does not select on academic grades alone. Selection focuses on leadership potential, work experience, and a clear career plan. A strong application explains what a candidate has achieved and how a UK master’s will support their goals.
The Chevening Scholarship is fully funded. It covers the following:
Applicants must meet all of the following requirements:
Chevening has no age limit. Applicants of any age may apply, provided they meet the work experience and degree requirements.
An English language test is not required by Chevening at the application stage. Applicants must meet the English language requirement of their chosen UK university, which confirms the accepted tests and scores. Candidates are advised to check these requirements early and book any test in good time.
A low CGPA does not automatically disqualify an applicant. Chevening places greater weight on work experience, leadership, and career plans than on grades. Each UK university sets its own entry requirements, so applicants should select courses where their grades give a realistic chance of an offer.
Applicants should prepare the following documents:
The four essays carry significant weight in the selection. Applicants should keep the following in mind:
After the deadline, all applications are assessed against the eligibility criteria. A reading committee then scores the eligible applications and prepares a shortlist. Shortlisted candidates are invited to an interview at a UK embassy or high commission. Final selection follows the interviews and confirmation of an unconditional university offer.
Applications close on 6 October 2026 at 11:00 UTC. Applicants are advised to apply early, as the system experiences heavy traffic close to the deadline.
Applications are submitted only through the official Chevening website. Chevening does not charge an application fee at any stage.
