What is Summer@EPFL?

EPFL, the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne, is one of Europe’s top technical universities. Each summer its School of Computer and Communication Sciences hosts international students in its research labs.

You join a research group and help solve problems that are part of larger research projects, often through programming or design work to prove new ideas. There is no fixed list of projects. Faculty suggest projects to admitted students, and you agree the topic and dates with your host lab.

What you get

  • A living allowance of CHF 1,800 a month, paid for the time you are there
  • A refund of your travel costs (economy airfare or second-class train)
  • Two to three months of hands-on research in an EPFL lab
  • Help from EPFL staff to find a place to stay

Accommodation is not paid for. EPFL staff usually share a list of places to look, or may offer you a room.
