Step 1: Create your University Admissions account

Go to universityadmissions.se and create a free account. Everything happens here: searching for programmes, applying, paying the fee and uploading documents. If you applied before, your old account and documents are still on file.

Step 2: Search for master’s programmes

Use the course search to find English-taught master’s programmes for autumn 2027. Sweden offers a wide choice of English-taught master’s degrees. Check each programme’s page on the university website for its exact entry and English requirements.

If you want the Swedish Institute Scholarship, choose programmes from SI’s list of eligible master’s programmes, published on 13 November 2026. See our Swedish Institute Scholarship 2027 guide.

Step 3: Choose and rank up to four programmes

You can select up to four master’s programmes, and the order matters a lot. In Sweden:

  • You are first considered for your top-ranked programme.
  • If you are offered a place there, all programmes ranked lower are deleted.
  • If not, your second choice is considered, and so on.
  • You can be offered only one place.

Put the programme you want most at the top. You can change the ranking until 15 January 2027.

Step 4: Pay the SEK 900 application fee

Most applicants who are not citizens of an EU/EEA country or Switzerland pay a SEK 900 application fee. You pay it once per semester, however many programmes you choose. The deadline is 1 February 2027, but University Admissions advises paying right away, because your application is not reviewed until the fee is paid.

You can pay by debit or credit card on the website, which is fastest, or by bank transfer if you have no card.

Step 5: Upload your documents

After you apply, you must prove your previous studies and your English. The deadline for supporting documents is 1 February 2027. What you need, and how to send it, depends on the country where you studied, so check the country instructions on University Admissions. Documents must be official.

Most applicants need:

  • Your bachelor’s degree certificate
  • Your transcripts
  • Proof of English
  • Any extra documents your programme asks for, such as a CV or motivation letter

If you are in the final year of your bachelor’s, many universities will still review your application. University Admissions explains what to submit.

What English level do I need to study in Sweden?

Most master’s programmes require English at the level of the Swedish upper secondary course English 6 (now called English Level 2). A few ask for English 5 or English 7. You can meet the requirement with an approved English test score, and in some countries with your upper secondary or university studies. Check your country on University Admissions before booking a test.

Step 6: Wait for your results

Admission results for master’s are published on 1 April 2027. If you are offered a place, your university will tell you if you need to reply. The autumn semester starts in August or September 2027.

Do international students pay tuition in Sweden?

Students from outside the EU/EEA and Switzerland usually pay tuition fees in Sweden. The amount depends on the programme. The Swedish Institute Scholarship pays these fees in full for its scholars, plus SEK 12,000 a month and a SEK 15,000 travel grant.
