What is the Future Diplomats Forum?

The Future Diplomats Forum (FDF) is organised by HISA, the Headway Institute of Strategic Alliance, which has run international youth forums since 2022. The first edition took place in Washington, D.C. in April 2025. The 2027 edition moves to Geneva, home to the UN Office at Geneva, the World Trade Organization and more than 40 international organisations.

Over four days, delegates join keynote talks from diplomats and international civil servants, institutional engagement sessions with the UN system and the WTO, diplomatic simulations and negotiation exercises, workshops on trade, humanitarian and climate diplomacy, panel discussions and cultural networking.

What you get

Fully funded delegates receive:

  • International round-trip airfare
  • Shared accommodation in a 4-star hotel (twin sharing)
  • Visa costs covered, plus an official visa invitation letter and visa support
  • Summit meals and daily breakfast
  • Airport transfers and inter-city transport
  • Full forum and networking access, a speaking opportunity, merchandise and a certificate

There are 250 scholarship seats: 50 fully funded, 100 partially funded and 100 forum access seats. • Any educational or professional background (interest in international relations, law, economics, trade, public policy or human rights is a plus)
  • Working English
  • Able to attend all four days in Geneva
  • A passport valid for at least six months after travel (recommended)

Is there an age limit?

Yes. You must be between 18 and 45 years old.

Do I need IELTS or TOEFL?

No. HISA says no IELTS, TOEFL or any English certificate is required at any stage. Working English is enough.

Is there an application fee?

Yes. The scholarship categories have an application fee of US$16.50. Paid packages are also available if you prefer a guaranteed seat: a visa invitation letter for US$99, a forum access pass for US$299 and a self-funded package with accommodation for US$699.

Can I apply with no background in international relations?

Yes. HISA welcomes applicants from any field. What matters is your interest in diplomacy and global affairs, and how clearly you explain it.

Required documents

You apply through the online form on the HISA website. Keep these ready:

  • Your passport details
  • Your motivation statement
  • A short summary of your education, work or volunteering
  • A way to pay the US$16.50 fee online

How to write your motivation statement

HISA asks you to explain why you belong in the room where diplomacy happens.

  • Start with one real moment that made you care about global affairs: a conflict, a trade issue, a climate disaster in your region.
  • Say what you have done since, such as Model UN, student politics, volunteering or work.
  • Name the Geneva institutions or topics you most want to engage with and why.
  • End with how you will use the experience at home.

How to apply, step by step

  1. Open the official FDF 2027 page using the button at the end of this post.
  2. Choose the Scholarship Category (or a self-sponsored package).
  3. Fill in the form, write your motivation statement and pay the US$16.50 fee.
  4. Wait for your selection result by email.
  5. If selected, confirm your seat and receive your official invitation letter for your Schengen visa.

Selection process

HISA reviews all scholarship applications and notifies successful applicants by email. Visa decisions are made by the Swiss authorities, and HISA’s team helps with embassy appointments.

Deadline

10 November 2026.

The forum is in February 2027. Apply early so you have enough time for a Schengen visa appointment once you are selected.
