What is MESPOM?

MESPOM has trained environmental professionals since 2005. You spend your first autumn and winter at Central European University in Vienna, your spring on the Greek island of Lesvos with the University of the Aegean, and your summer on an internship. In year two you study at Lund University in Sweden or the University of Manchester in the UK, then write your thesis at any partner.

What it costs and what aid covers

  • Participation fee for students outside the EU/EEA: 18,000 euros a year
  • Participation fee for EU/EEA students: 8,000 euros a year
  • CEU financial aid for top applicants: partial tuition waivers and monthly living stipends
  • MESPOM Consortium awards covering 50% of tuition

The Manchester track needs a separate UK visa, which adds about 3,000 euros in visa and health insurance costs. Many MESPOM students also combine this aid with outside scholarships such as Commonwealth, Chevening, or the Aga Khan Foundation.

Who can apply

  • Applicants from all countries
  • A good first degree, with a GPA of 3.5 or equivalent
  • A degree in environmental sciences, policy, management, natural or social sciences, or engineering
  • Proof of English, such as IELTS or TOEFL

Do I need IELTS or TOEFL?

Yes. Applications must be complete with a valid English test score, such as TOEFL or IELTS, by the deadline.

Can I apply with average grades?

MESPOM asks for a good first degree, around a 3.5 GPA or the equivalent. If your grades are strong, apply for financial aid. If you need full funding, look at the fully funded Erasmus Mundus scholarships we post as well.
