What is the Salzburg Global Seminar Internship?

Salzburg Global Seminar brings together leaders and thinkers from around the world for programmes on global challenges, held at a historic palace in Austria. Its internships place young people inside that work for three months, across teams such as programme, development, communications, and the library.

You help run real convenings and projects, work alongside an international staff, and live on site at Schloss Leopoldskron. For someone early in their career in policy, international relations, or communications, it is strong experience in a setting few get to see.

What you get

  • Round-trip airfare to and from Salzburg
  • Free accommodation at Schloss Leopoldskron
  • Free airport transfer
  • Insurance for the internship period
  • A laptop and software to use during your time there

There is no stipend or salary. The internship covers your travel and housing, so your main personal costs are day-to-day spending and your visa, if you need one. A 100 euro accommodation deposit is required and refundable.

Who can apply

  • You are 18 or older.
  • You are an undergraduate who has completed at least three years of study, a recent graduate, or a current graduate student. Some roles, such as communications and library, ask for a completed degree.
  • You are comfortable with Microsoft Office.
  • All nationalities can apply. Non-EU citizens need a visa, and the programme helps with the process.

Is there an age limit?

The minimum age is 18. There is no upper age limit stated. What matters is your study level and your fit with the role.

Do I need IELTS or TOEFL?

No test is required. The work is in English, so strong English helps, but Salzburg Global does not ask for an IELTS or TOEFL score.

Can I apply with average grades?

This is about skills and fit more than a single grade. Show that you are organised, write well, and are genuinely interested in the kind of global work Salzburg Global does. Match your application to the specific team you want to join.

Required documents

  • Your CV
  • A cover letter for the specific internship
  • Proof of your studies or graduation
  • Anything else the role listing asks for

How to write your cover letter

Name the team you want to join and say why. Point to real things you have done that match it, whether that is writing, event work, research, or admin. Keep it specific and short, and let your interest in international work come through. Read it aloud before you send it.

How to apply, step by step

  1. Open the official Salzburg Global internships page and read the current roles.
  2. Pick the team that fits your skills and study level.
  3. Prepare your CV and a cover letter for that role.
  4. Submit your application before the deadline.
  5. Keep a copy, and plan your visa early if you will need one.

Selection process

Salzburg Global reviews applications by role, shortlists, and interviews. Selected interns get an offer with the travel, accommodation, and insurance the programme provides, for a three-month placement.

Deadline

1 December 2026.

That gives you time to prepare a strong application, so choose your role early and get your CV and cover letter ready. The internship runs three months. Confirm the exact date and time, and the current open roles, on the official Salzburg Global page before you submit.
