The ETH Zurich Excellence Scholarship and Opportunity Programme 2027 covers full Master’s study and living costs. It provides CHF 13,500 per semester from the 2027 intake, a tuition-fee waiver, mentorship and access to the ETH Foundation network.
About 60 ESOP scholarships are expected for 2027–28. You apply for the scholarship inside your ETH Zurich Master’s application.

What is this opportunity?
ESOP is ETH Zurich’s main excellence award for new Master’s students. The scholarship covers the normal three or four semesters of the degree. Selection is based on outstanding academic performance and the quality of the complete application.

Who can apply?
- You are applying for an eligible ETH Zurich Master’s programme.
- Your Bachelor’s result places you around the top 10 percent of your class.
- You apply during the first Master’s application window.
- You do not already hold a Master’s degree and are not already enrolled in an ETH Master’s programme.
- You submit the required Master’s thesis pre-proposal and references.
Can I apply now?
Applications open on 1 November 2026. Prepare your documents now, but do not describe the scholarship as open before that date.
Can I use AI to write the thesis pre-proposal?
ETH says the proposal must be developed by you and follow proper academic citation. Plagiarism or false information can lead to exclusion or the later withdrawal of a scholarship.
How to apply
- Choose an eligible ETH Zurich Master’s programme.
- Check the admission documents and ESOP requirements for that programme.
- Prepare your CV, academic documents, references and original thesis pre-proposal.
- Apply through ETH eApply during the first application window.
- Select the ESOP option and submit the complete file before the closing time.
Deadline
The application window runs from 1 November to 30 November 2026. ETH lists the closing time as 11:59 a.m. Central European Time on the admissions page.
Applicants with a Bachelor’s degree from outside Switzerland must use this first application window.
