What is the Schuman Traineeship?

The traineeships are named after Robert Schuman, one of the founders of the European Union. They are run by the Secretariat of the European Parliament, the EU’s elected law-making body.

You can work in a wide range of areas: EU internal and external policy, finance, law, translation and languages, administration, infrastructure and logistics, communication or IT. The Directorate-General for Communication also offers some traineeships in memory of Ján Kuciak, the Slovak investigative journalist murdered in 2018.

What you get

  • A monthly grant for the full five months
  • Five months of work experience inside an EU institution
  • A first-hand view of how EU laws and policies are made
  • Placements in Brussels, Luxembourg, Strasbourg or a Liaison Office

The exact grant and any allowances are set out in the “Monthly grant and allowances” document on the official page. Trainees with a disability selected through the Positive Action Scheme can receive up to 50% extra on top of the monthly grant.
