What is the UNICEF Venture Fund Internship?

The UNICEF Venture Fund backs early-stage technology startups in UNICEF programme countries, the kind building open-source solutions for children and communities. The Office of Innovation runs it.

As an intern you support that work. You help source startups, run checks on them, monitor the companies already funded, and keep the team’s knowledge organised. It is a real look inside how a global organisation invests in technology for good.

What you get

  • A monthly stipend from UNICEF, unless another organisation is already funding your internship
  • Six months of hands-on experience with UNICEF’s Office of Innovation
  • The choice to work remotely or in person in Stockholm
  • A reference and network from one of the best-known names in development

The stipend is the pay for the role. If you do the internship in person, your travel, insurance, and living costs in Sweden are your own; if you work remotely, you provide your own laptop and internet.

Who can apply

  • You are currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree, or you graduated within the past two years.
  • You are at least 18 years old.
  • Your field is social and economic development, business administration, political science, economics, innovation, public administration, or something related.
  • You are comfortable with Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, SharePoint).
  • You have strong written and spoken English.
  • You have no immediate family working at UNICEF.

Applications are open worldwide, with no country restriction.

Is there an age limit?

The minimum age is 18. There is no upper age limit stated. What matters is that you are still a student or graduated within the last two years.

Do I need IELTS or TOEFL?

No test is required. You need strong English because the work is in English, but UNICEF does not ask for an IELTS or TOEFL score for this internship.

Can I apply with average grades?

UNICEF says it wants strong academic performance, so good grades help. Your skills matter just as much here: if you can show you are organised, comfortable with data and Microsoft 365, and interested in innovation, that carries real weight. Put your relevant projects and skills forward clearly.

Required documents

  • Your CV
  • A cover letter or motivation statement, if the posting asks for one
  • Proof of your enrolment or your graduation (within the last two years)
  • Anything else listed on the UNICEF job posting

Apply through the official UNICEF careers portal, and follow exactly what that posting asks for.

How to write your application

UNICEF is choosing interns who can do real work from day one. In your CV and cover letter, show the concrete things you have done: a project you ran, data you handled, a startup or innovation idea you worked on. Tie your interest to what the Venture Fund does, which is backing technology that helps children and communities. Keep it clear and specific.

How to apply, step by step

  1. Open the official UNICEF job posting on jobs.unicef.org.
  2. Read the full role and requirements, and decide if remote or in person fits you.
  3. Prepare your CV and, if asked, a short cover letter.
  4. Create your profile on the UNICEF careers portal and submit before the deadline.
  5. Keep a copy of your application.

Selection process

UNICEF screens applications against the study and skills requirements, then shortlists candidates for interview. Since this round takes multiple interns, more than one applicant will be selected. Successful candidates are offered the six-month internship with the stipend attached.

Deadline

25 September 2026, Central European Daylight Time.

This is a tight one, closing in days, so if the role fits you, prepare your CV and apply now. The internship runs six months part-time. Confirm the exact date and time on the official UNICEF posting before you submit.
