What is the International Leadership Program?

It is a short leadership conference in Rome. Young people from many countries meet for talks, panels, and cultural activities around leadership, human rights, and working across borders. You leave with a certificate and a wider network.

VFRI runs it. They have held similar events in other countries. Most seats are paid seats. The 15 funded seats are the ones worth chasing.

What the funded seat covers

If you win one of the 15 fully funded places, you get:

  • Your flight, paid back to you as a reimbursement
  • Accommodation for the whole event, in a shared twin room
  • Two meals a day
  • The conference fee waived in full
  • A conference kit and a certificate
  • Cultural activities and the closing event

The reimbursement catch, said plainly

Your flight is a reimbursement, not a ticket they buy for you. That means you pay for your own flight first, travel to Rome, and they pay you back after. So even a funded seat needs cash in your hand upfront for the ticket, plus a visa and travel money.

If you cannot safely put that money out and wait to be paid back, this may not be the right one for you. That is not a knock on the program. It is just the honest math.

Who can apply

  • Young leaders, students, and working professionals
  • Any nationality
  • You can take part in sessions in English

Is there an application fee?

The organizer’s page does not list an application fee. Good. But paid youth conferences sometimes add a “processing” or “confirmation” fee later. If anyone asks you to pay a fee to hold or confirm a funded seat, stop and check it carefully before you send any money.

How hard is a funded seat to get?

There are only 15 funded seats and the event is open worldwide, so the funded route is tight. The paid seats are easier to get, but you cover your own costs. Only take a paid seat if you can truly afford it and you know why you want to be in that room.

How to apply

  1. Open the official application page (link at the bottom of this post).
  2. Choose the fully funded option, not a self-funded pass.
  3. Fill in your details and your reason for wanting to attend. Be specific about your work and what you would bring.
  4. Submit before 10 September 2026. The window is short, so do it today.

Deadline: 10 September 2026. Results on 15 September 2026.
